A great deal of effort is made to match the accent plant with the tree. Matching is done on several levels. First is location. Ferns do not grow where junipers grow and hence would not be as good a choice of accent plant for a juniper as a succulent. Second is time of year. A brown grass is fine for a fall tree but not for a spring tree in bloom. Lastly is style of plant growth. A blooming plant nicely complements a tree in the spring.
Accent plant pots are cleaned with olive oil spray which is then buffed to remove the excess. A mud ball in which soil is surrounded by a layer of muck and then covered with moss held on by green string. Plants are planted in the ball and over time the ball acquires a very natural look.
